Maidenhead is a thriving marketing area incorporated by a charter of Queen Elizabeth I in 1582
it was an important coaching settlement during the thirteenth century when the first wooden bridge
was built across the Thames in 1250.
Its conveniant location to London ( only 24 miles away ) and the fact that it is on the Thames
has led to it becoming an increasingly populous town with the last estimate being about 60,000 residents.
